Introduction
Some moments in life change everything — the first breath, the first smile, the first beat of a heart after surgery.
For hundreds of families across Kerala, Suhrudaya has been that moment. Since 2010, this program has saved the lives of 228 children born with congenital heart defects — many of whom wouldn’t have survived without timely help.
These are not just medical cases. They are stories of resilience, fear, courage, and grace. Most of all, they are stories of hope restored — one heartbeat at a time.
💓 “We Didn’t Know She Had a Heart Problem — Until It Was Almost Too Late”
When 4-month-old Aleena began fainting during feeding, her mother rushed her to Kozhikode Medical College. Tests revealed a serious ventricular septal defect (VSD). The doctor advised surgery within a month.
“We were told it would cost over ₹2 lakhs. I’m a daily wage worker. We didn’t know what to do.”
Suhrudaya stepped in within 48 hours. Surgery was done at Aster MIMS, and Aleena is now 3 — active, smiling, and attending pre-school.
💓 “My Grandchild’s Heart Was Failing — I Had No One Left to Turn To”
Anitha, a grandmother from Nilambur, had lost her daughter during childbirth. She was raising baby Reenu alone when doctors diagnosed a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA).
“I had no husband, no job. Just a sick child and no help.”
Suhrudaya processed her application in 3 days and covered the full surgery cost. Today, Reenu is a healthy 7-year-old who dreams of becoming a teacher.
💓 “The Government Promised Help — But We Were Still Waiting”
Irfan’s parents were hopeful when the Hridyam scheme was announced. They applied, submitted forms, and waited for months. Irfan’s oxygen levels dropped. He couldn’t walk 10 steps without resting.
They approached Helping Hands with all their documents.
“Within five days, surgery was approved. We didn’t even have to follow up.”
Irfan was saved — just in time. And Suhrudaya continued to support his medicines for three months post-surgery.
