Introduction

For most people, the day of hospital discharge is a moment of relief.

But for thousands of patients across Kerala, it’s a moment of fear.

They’re medically ready to leave, but they can’t — because they don’t have the equipment needed to survive at home.

This quiet crisis is what gave birth to DiL SE, our Life-Saving Medical Equipment Bank.

🚫 The Hidden Reason Behind Delayed Discharges

Doctors often say:

“The patient can go home — but they’ll need an oxygen concentrator, suction unit, or hospital bed to manage.”

That’s where the problem starts.

These patients are from low-income backgrounds. They’ve already spent everything on surgery, medicine, and transport.

They can’t afford a ₹40,000 oxygen concentrator or a motorised air bed.

And so, they stay.

Not because they’re unwell — but because they have no equipment to continue recovery.

“I slept on the hospital bench next to my father for 10 days. The hospital couldn’t discharge him without oxygen. We had no idea what to do.”Aneesa, daughter of a COPD patient

💖 The Impact So Far

  • 🎁 ₹20 million worth of medical equipment in active circulation

  • 👨‍⚕️ Hundreds of patients able to return home safely

  • 🏥 Reduced hospital burden — more beds freed for critical cases

  • 💬 Improved quality of recovery at home

And perhaps most importantly — families are able to heal together, not in overburdened wards, but in the comfort of their homes.

🧭 A Model Based on Trust and Sharing

DiL SE isn’t just a lending system. It’s a circle of care.

Each piece of equipment is:

  • Delivered with training on how to use it

  • Collected, cleaned, and refurbished after use

  • Re-issued to the next family in need

It’s like a library — but of life-saving tools.

“We got the concentrator within 4 hours of our call. It saved my mother’s life at home.”Joseph, Thrissur

Closing Note

There’s a silent group of patients waiting in hospitals today — not for another test, not for a doctor — but for a machine that will let them go home.

With DiL SE, we say:

You don’t need to be rich to recover with dignity.

Let’s build a Kerala where no patient is held hostage by a missing machine.
